3 day suspension for me

I asked a question about why we pretend Pakistan is our ally. and then tagged to that I put "Snipe? Tex?"

Which was soliciting an answer from them.

This caused me to be suspended for 3 days. I guess this is under the rule "we do whatever the hell we want."

They really are out of control, and I'm seriously considering going the BYU71 route.

While I read your post and thought the suspension was a bit much, I have to tell you, Mike ... if you went the BYU71 route, I'm not sure many would miss you.

Just like not many would miss me if I disappeared from CG. :)

exactly. screw them.

if I'm not considered an asset to the board over there, so be it.

no more helping people over the phone or through boardmails about their mentally ill relative. etc.

Kicking me off would be doing me a favor. I'll probably help someone and get sued.

Jefe has a pretty good thing going over there. Now this is just a guess on my part.

A big part of his following are those who sit back and gripe and moan about people who don't fit the "BYU mold". Go talk to a Bishop. They all have members who come in continually complaining about how other members of the ward act. They are vocal and as such get paid attention to, much like a hemroid.

Your suspension and agreeing to sign to rules, confirm your allegience to the herd, which satisfies them. Rules and punishment are what these types understand. I am not sure I would do it any other way if I were Jefe.

I do miss being on the board to needle those folks. The "rather lose and have no honor code violations crowd." Sadly they don't frequent this board.

MikeWaters 08-07-2007 03:56 PM

Jefe rakes in the money. It's all about the money at the end of the day.

he has done the calculus that having me around causes him to lose money.

he may find the opposite is true.

Archaea 08-07-2007 03:59 PM

I have followed BYU71's lead and no longer post there, because I know I will break my promise to follow the rules. Of course, nobody's clamoring for me to return. I feel better not breaking the rules and not reading it any more.

Mike, I hate to tell you this, but Goat doesn't post all that much on that board . His absence doesn't seem to have created much of a stir. If he doesn't cause much of a stir, you and I don't even cause a blip.

Personally I have no animosity toward Jefe or that board. I just have fundamental differences in how it is run and I can't overlook them anymore.

Agreed. It was about my feelings and not what it would or wouldn't do to their board. I still read it though. More for info though like I read TBS.

MikeWaters 08-07-2007 04:02 PM

yeah, I have no illusions that there would be any sort of indignation or outpouring.

It's time for me to pull down my cowboy hat, turn my horse around and ride out of town.

Celestial?? Now that would be a news flash. I would somehow make sure you knew so you could go over to CB and ruin the mullah contingencies testimonies.

There is some rule about specifically calling people out. I don't pretend to understand it.

Here is where the inconsistency is.

http://www.cougarboard.com/noframes/...tml?id=2867798

That post was not deleted. The rules are enforced differently depending on who the person is. I think Mike in their world is a "trouble maker" and therefor will be dealt with differently.

As I say over and over again, I don't argue their right to do that, I just don't feel like agreeing to it anymore. I am sure they feel fine about that as do I.

Indy Coug 08-07-2007 05:31 PM

The enforcement very well may be inconsistent and arbitrary, but let's don't kid ourselves: Mike is constantly pushing people's buttons and trolling. He reaps what he sows.

P.S. I got a day for posting Adam's "Terrible Tongas" Cougarguard post in response to his asinine objections to a cartoon of Obama and Hillary. I was told it was because I "called him out" for his hypocrisy.

Fine. Just state a rule that says rules will be enforced based on WHO you are moreson than WHAT you post. There are a group of us who can get away with nothing while others are pretty much untouchable.

So some people are allowed to push others buttons. It depends on if you agree with the group whether you are a troll or not. I don't consider you a troll, but on this board you are every bit as much a troll as Mike is on that board.

That board has an ignore button doesn't it. Why not let people make their own decisions as to whether they want to ignore someone or not. Look, some people are comfortable having other people tell them how what there morals and standards should be and some aren't. There aren't any villains or good people here, just differences of opinion.

I don't know anyone on that board that is "untouchable". I've probably racked up over a month's worth of cumulative bans.

Hey, I don't have Mike on ignore. I have zero involvement with making the rules or enforcing them.

I'm just saying that Mike is well aware of what flies there and shouldn't be griping about it anymore. Undoubtedly people that aren't frequent offenders get the benefit of the doubt more than others. Ask Goatnapper.

I know of at least one poster who has purposely tried to get a ban ... and failed.

Not all posts are read by moderators and not all moderators are as rigid about the rules as others.

If they really wanted a ban, they should've boardmailed a pornographic picture to Jefe. That would work.

I know a couple of the mods well. I think I will ask them if I am wrong or right. Maybe they are sworn to secrecy. However, my hunch is that some of the "boobs" on that board keep the mods well aware of any posts they don't like. There is a tattle tale element on there that is alive and well. Probably a hold over from their glorious days at BYU.

Note: That comment was intended for only the "boobs" and should not be construed as if I believe that about the majority of BYU students or alumni.

Yeah, the "Report Abuse" link is undoubtedly abused by certain grudgeholders.

cougjunkie 08-07-2007 06:26 PM

I was banned for 14 days for asking Norcal if he was a switch hitter. Trust me when i say that if anyone else asked that the worst thing they get is a warning.

Maybe i am a habitual offender but i do think there is a "watch list" of certain posters.

RC Vikings 08-07-2007 06:31 PM

Cougarboard has lost a lot of its personality to this board. It is their loss.

I can't find a link, but at one time it was stated that repeat offenders get escalating penalties for the same offense.

IOW, if I make reference certain anatomical features that resemble desert-dwelling quadrapeds and I'll probably get one day and Goatnapper will probably get two weeks.

Here is something I posted back in May.

http://www.cougarboard.com/noframes/...tml?id=2713508

I suggest for some reason, maybe the boobs complaining, it was decided to start eliminating controversy and friction, especially outside of the football posts. The board is becoming more and more like the Ute board. Everyone basically agreeing with each other.

Go ahead and attack Kyle and you won't hear another side, much like what goes on in reverse on the Ute board. Now the Cougar board will continue to be much bigger because of the fan base.

Even some of the more non-controversial posters don't post much anymore. I have seen PAC post more on Utefans than CB. Bucko and DodgerMike don't post much and Flystripper stopped posting a lot a long time ago.

It will be interesting when it comes to the season. Fans visiting that site are going to get a much different view of BYU fans than if they were able to see the whole gammit of BYU fans. They are going to see the washed and cleansed version. :)

I didn't know that post had been deleted. I never got a warning on it. I don't know how to cut and paste. Suffice it to say I thought someone was going to start complaining about the controvery talked about in the religion section and some crack down on controversy was going to begin,.

I don't know how you remove myself from someone else's friends list. I can only add and remove my own friends list.

My friends list keeps shrinking because the world continues to conspire against me.

LOL, I really thought you were on it too. If someone asked I always put them on. I guess you never asked.

I only removed one person from my friends list. That is someone who accused me of leading people away from their testimonies by some of my comments. Later he claimed he was talking to Arch.

I still like the guy alright, but I felt keeping him on the friends list was a little too much.
