Alta v. Layton in the 5A Championship Game

Part of me wanted a piece of Bingham in the Championship game since they were the team to beat all year... but I'll take a victory over Alta if we can get it.

Excited to see Layton make it to the Championship. They've been LONG overdue.

Nice. Are you going to make it to the game? I'll be there. If you do go, let's meet up and the dog and Coke are on me.

I'm shooting to make it, but we'll see as the week goes on if it happens. If I do I'll have to take you up on the offer though.

If I cared about my alma matter I would say Alta sucks here. I am glad I don't care.

So, what's the latest on Shakerin (or however it is spelled)? Has he committed to anyone yet? Any idea where he is leaning?

You must be a former Cheatin' Bengal. ;)

The latest I've heard (from a number of friends who have kids who play at Alta), is that Shakerin (pronounced shah-kah-REEN) (I'm proud of myself for learning how to pronounce it) is still undecided and in no hurry to make that decision.

I can say that if he is leaning, it is toward a few BCS schools.

L-L-LAY-T-T-TON LAY-TON LAAAATON!

I didn't know that the Lancers were in the State Championship? What happened to their team?!

My bros would be proud, all three Layton Lancers.

I would imagine we cheated, but just not well.

Just funnin' with you.

In my day, Brighton was much more competitive against Alta, but then, I was at Alta the first 4 years it was open. I only refer to them as the Cheatin' Bengals because of a basketball game in which Brighton had six players on the floor at the end of a game (played at Brighton) and made a stop to win the game. The refs missed it completely and the Alta coach went ballistic.

Absolutely hilarious.

I'm trying to interpret your last sentence. Have you heard he's leaning toward some BCS schools or heard he's undecided? Hard to tell what you're basing the "...if he is leaning..." since it's a separate paragraph. Do you know more than the latest you've heard?

Sorry about that. I did a poor job of relaying the info I have.

What I mean is that Shakarin hasn't decided where he'll play yet, but he is leaning more towards a few of the BCS schools than in state schools.

Right now, his focus is more on a state championship than anything else football related.

I'm not a good troll, but you really suck at it.

For your sake, you really ought to quit trying.

After 7,000 posts I would think that you'd be an expert on trolling. However, I would think you might struggle with actual human interaction, being able to identify the sun and making it to the top of your basement stairs without passing out.
Also, you do a great job of trolling over on CB.

Again, you got me. Ouch!

So you know, I know the sun is that really bright circle in the sky during the day, though I'm not quite sure where it goes at night; human interaction is overrated but I bet I've been to more funerals than you which means I must have interacted with more humans than you have; and I haven't posted on Jefe's board for about 2 years now.

I guess you're not as smart as I originally thought you were.

I knew you'd respond within a few minutes. LOL.

Alta will win.

Derek Keller and Jefferson Court are damn good.

I'm surprised they both don't have more D-I offers. Especially Court. I know BYU is talking to Court, but am not sure if they've offered him yet.

A lot of it probably depends on whether Uona Kaveinga commits to Bronco or not.

Notice you responded more quickly.

Give it up.

No more merciful onside kicks on my part.

You lose.

Court is a terrific LB and the two Andersons are solid as well. Court is the best of the group and I'm sure he'll end up somewhere playing college ball.

I don't know how good Layton is, but this Alta team is playing extremely well right now.

I don't know how good Layton is, but this Alta team is playing extremely well right now.

Layton is a very scrappy team. They play tough, hardnosed defense and have a kid at QB in Gavin Green who is the typical HS stud athlete that won't go on to play D1 because of a lack of size. Their best D1 prospect is probably the Putnam kid who plays WR and Safety. He has pretty good size for a HS WR and solid hands. He likes the jump ball and is the type of receiver who knows how to adjust on the fly and bring it down. They also have two pretty solid RBs whose names are slipping my mind right now.

Layton's real strength is their defense as they aren't afraid to hit anybody.

Layton has a lot of heart. They have a great coach in Bachelor who, from the mouths of a few kids who played for him at Davis when they won state in 2005, was the real guy behind their success.

Atla will be a tough team to beat, but I don't expect Layton to back down. I'm excited for the game this week as I don't think you make it to the State Championship game and expect to lost. I know Alta will be favored, and they should be, but I wouldn't count Layton out either.

Lancers win 28-27 in one hell of a game. :)

I've talked to a few 5A coaches that I know in the last few days and their opinion is that Layton is a heckuva team. The Lancers only loss was their first game? Layton is a great team.

I've also hear that they're similar to Alta in that they don't have overwhelming size, but lots of speed. It will be a fun game.

The offer still stands if you can make it.

Layton's only loss was their first game against Jordan I want to say, and it was a close one.

Not a whole lot of size, but like I said they aren't afraid to hit people. I'm going to try and make it, but I've came down with something awful the last few days, so we'll see.
