I like monkeys coming out of a barrel.

A couple of weeks ago it was clowns coming out of a barrel. Now it is monkeys coming out of a barrel.

Truthfully, I don't really understand either metaphor. Are they commonly used and I am just not paying attention?

Do clowns come out of barrels? I know they come out of cars.

I had no idea monkeys came out of barrels.

The expression is "more fun than a barrel full of monkeys." SU is always a little late, so he probably has only arrived at the end of their shift, when those fun monkeys are leaving the barrel.

I was wondering about this, too. I've heard there's a lot of fun to be had with a barrel full of monkeys, and I've heard you can shoot fish in a barrel. We may be scraping the bottom of the barrel, or perhaps the whole place is going to hell lock, stock and barrel.

But I truly don't know what it means if clowns and monkeys are coming out of barrels. Sounds like a low budget horror film from the mid-1980s.

But honestly, I was more focused on trying to figure decipher a metaphor that involved simians, a fort, sand dunes, a chain of islands, and copious quantities of liquor.

BarbaraGordon 11-11-2008 03:38 PM

Stop that, Mike!!

Now the offending post isn't even in the thread!

Now that we are in agreement, let's roll out the barrel! We'll have a barrel of fun.

This is another one of your pork-barrel proposals, isn't it?

It is still quoted in my post.

Mike really puts us over the barrel with this sort of stunt.

I'm just wondering what those monkeys ate to become so flatulent. I don't think that's a barrel full of laughs, if you know what I mean.

I think they ate some of those delicious root beer barrels, which they obviously collected recently at Halloween. yum!

I think THAT is why they all had to leave, giving even greater depoth and nuance to SU's compliment of Waters, who was clearly far too modest to let the thread stand.

I thought they skipped trick-or-treating in favor of the big sale at Crate and Barrel.

If you notice where their hands are placed on the barrel, I don't how one could argue they are getting in the barrel or that they are even simply sitting in the barrel enjoying themselves.

That, my firend, is no monkey. That is an ape and an angry ape at that.

I'm not sure that's the right gun. I think monkeys tend to shoot with both barrels.

Why would monkeys shop at Crate and Barrel? That makes no sense.

It would be like my claiming that the monkeys skipped trick or treating to go Barrel Horse racing.

We're not exactly talking about logical creatures here. It's always monkey business.

If they were EXITING the barrel, there would be no huge splash of water behind them.

They're fiercely loyal to Banana Republic.

Not to go ape on you, but shouldn't it be gorilla warfare in this case?

Is Shamu EXITING the pool in this pic? Looks like Shamu is simply jumping up and down inside the pool.

Stay in context, Tex. try to keep up.
