What is your annual gross income? (just you, not couple)

poll

We had to go there, didn't we.

BYU71 05-13-2008 04:20 PM

If a bunch of people answer, I will. If I answer first people will accuse me of looking for the opportunity to brag.

ute4ever 05-13-2008 04:22 PM

Does this include treasures in heaven? Because I've been told some really cute things.

Tex 05-13-2008 04:28 PM

What if someone has no income, but is not a student? Does state welfare count as income?

TripletDaddy 05-13-2008 04:37 PM

Since Viper started doing my taxes, I have no income.

Everything flows through my Schedule D and E and I am operating at break even thanks to all my business losses.

landpoke 05-13-2008 06:32 PM

I guess those making less than 45k are too busy mucking about in shameful poverty to speak up. Believe me, it's ok if you're poor. It doesn't mean you're not a man, just less of one.

Indy Coug 05-13-2008 06:50 PM

Looking at the results, it's obvious we have a lot of lawyers on this board.

marsupial 05-13-2008 06:53 PM

I will admit that I am the one who makes less than 30K a year (but more than zero). That is just MY income though.

I was going to say the same thing, except to note that we have a lot of people who received liberal arts degrees.

30K? That is a pretty pricey newsletter!

Just from the newsletter?

In our ward, the RS newsletter is called The Sego Lily Gazette.

It is free.

But, and please correct me if I'm wrong, you're a woman. So it's ok.

But her male equivalent is making $100K.

Are you questioning The Free Market?

No, but I was about to provide the worksheet provided by Nancy Pelosi's staff. Can writing summaries of Judge Judy episodes be considered "legal work"?

SeattleUte 05-13-2008 07:45 PM

Indy, I understand that actuaries need more schooling than Jesuits and that it takes a rare personality to pursue the field, somewhat like morticians. I hope they pay you a lot.

It's OK, not because I am a woman, but because I am no longer the primary source of our income. I do a little contract work on the side from home.

More schooling than Jesuits? OK, I'll plead ignorance on that analogy. You only need a 4 year degree, but then the actuarial exams typically take at least 7 years to complete. Actuarial exams are all self-directed study. No classes or anything like that.

My last exam covered 2,400 pages of material. Six hour essay exam. That's only one out of 10 exams though.

Less than. Less than. Of course, if I worked 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year on that newsletter, my gross would be considerably more than danimal's. He'll surpass that though in the next couple of years.

I was referencing the "less of a man" aspect of my post, but I also understand your point.

Compensation

Salaries and Benefits

Actuaries are well compensated. Experienced Fellows have the potential to earn from $150,000 to $250,000 annually. In fact, did you know that new Associate actuaries earned a higher salary than the average MBA in 2002?
Compensation may vary significantly according to years of experience, industry, geographic region, and responsibilities. For example, an actuary with a Fellowship designation working as a financial manager in the banking industry could earn a higher salary than another Fellow working in the health insurance industry.

MikeWaters 05-13-2008 09:07 PM

I think this poll, if complete, honest, and representative of the posters here indicates that the average poster is likely more affluent than the avg. American.

I wonder if CG is more affluent than CB.

jay santos 05-13-2008 09:09 PM

Based on the way people talk about their jobs here, I would expect more in the >150K range. I guess we have a lot of big talkers. I'm shocked.

The salary ceiling for a consulting actuary is much higher than someone working in a "traditional role".

< 5% of all actuaries make $200K+

Or a lot of non-voters.

Since 90% of them are living in their moms basement playing video games and looking up porn I would guess yes.

Jeff Lebowski 05-13-2008 09:44 PM

Interesting poll. I can't help but wonder how much more money we could all make if we didn't spend so much time farting around on the internet.

I could make more money if I worked harder - I just don't want to work that hard.

Archaea 05-14-2008 12:36 AM

When is Seattle voting? And 71? We have nobody tabbing the highest level?

Creekster, you've not voted either.

The average income here might be in the top 5 to 10 percent of America. I know you were engaging understatement.

No doubt it's higher here than CB.
It's well know that this forum is demonstrably more intelligent and learned than CB.

The fact that you can see who has voted is precisely why I am not voting.

PS Who is taking down the 300K+ per? dish.

To say that that the average income here is "probably" higher than the average American's income is ClouSeaU grade dectective work.

As a college sports board, this site draws (mostly) alumni from a private university and its in-state public rival. Most people here will have college degrees, advanced degrees, and a full-time job. Of course the average income here will be higher than a generic cross-section of middle America.

Should I just tab 700K plus for you? We'll mark you, Seattle and DDD in the highest category, since you're all too shy.

I am definitely not in the highest category, even with votes cast as is.

I have a feeling creekster is sandbagging it. I offered to take him to dinner at Vic Stewarts if I were ever in the Creek. Instead of responding with a polite refusal and an in-kind offer, he quickly accepted the freebie.

Only an eccentric and rich SOB would do to that.

Creekster is extremely wealthy but he does not approach the wealth of Seattle, 71, Pac or you. And especially not Mr. big bucks real estate guy. I forget his name. Viper or something like that.

You're just as much a sandbagger as the rest of you rich Republicans while the rest of working folk slave away for a few pennies supporting your asses.
