A calendar for Utestar

Too funny:

Quote:

TMZ has obtained a letter sent to Chad Hardy, the Mormon creator of the steamy Men on a Mission calendar, by the LDS church -- threatening disfellowship or excommunication for "conduct unbecoming a member." Coincidence? Chad thinks not.

Hot Mormons: Click to launchHardy tells TMZ he believes he's being targeted for the 12-monther -- but admits he doesn't attend church meetings or pay his tithing. He also believes his repentance will include closing up shop on the calendar, which he ain't ready to do. Save me Joseph Smith!

Here's the letter.

Archaea 07-11-2008 08:30 PM

when did "conduct unbecoming a member" become a foundation for disfellowshipment or excommunication?

That is a new one as far as I am concerned.

Is that anywhere near your stake?

It's a contiguous stake. It's southerly and a break-off from our stake. Was the calendar that gay calendar showing guys posing as Mormons?

TripletDaddy 07-11-2008 08:36 PM

That is sweet that the Church uses a TMZ watermark on all its docs.

I went to law school with a guy named Joe Hardy. He was from Vegas. I wonder if he is related to this Chad person?

I think it is RM's posing shirtless for a gay audience.

The funny part of this - at least to me - is that some people think TMZ is a worthwhile media organization and not a tabloid similar to National Enquirer.

I think that is one of the standard reasons often given for discipline. This is an excerpt from the 1998 Handbook:

Quote:

The presiding officer gives a member written notice of a disciplinary council that will be held in his behalf. This notice should be addressed to the member by his full name and signed by the presiding officer. It should state:

1. That "the [stake presidency or bishopric] is considering formal disciplinary action in your behalf, including the possibility of disfellowshipment or excommunication, because you are reported to have [set forth the charge in general terms, such as 'been in apostasy' or 'participated in conduct unbecoming a member of the Church,' but do not give any details or evidence]."

2. That "you are invited to attend this disciplinary council to give your response and, if you wish, to provide witnesses and other evidence in your behalf."

3. That "the disciplinary council will be held on [date and time] at [place]."

Two Melchizedek Priesthood holders deliver the notice to the member personally and privately with courtesy and dignity. The members who deliver the notice must give the clerk of the disciplinary council a signed statement certifying that the member was notified and describing how he was notified.

So this is one of those catch-all phrases that leadership can interpret however it wishes? Great.

First the spy committee, now a bureaucratic reason to punish members.

Consider the source, Brother Archaea. It's TMZ.

Ya except it doesn't look new. Its in the old version of the handbook. It probably was added when the handbook started advising leaders to keep the charges general and not specific .... I don't know when that started.

Totally hott! I was in the running to be Mr. June Sizzler, but I guess I was too hott! to handle.

Enlighten me, what is TMZ?

I'm not stating a disaffected Mormon tells the whole truth, but I was wondering what that phrase meant.

I view TMZ as the tv version of the national enquirer. Video garbage rather than written.

Would People Magazine have been a better comparison?

People are scared of Harvey Levin in LA.

If you have dirt, he is going to expose it.

The Enquirer is for when you want to know which aliens abducted Jessica Simpson.

People magazine is for when you want to see what Jessica Simpson wore while she went shopping at Fred Segal.

TMZ is for if you want to see an actual clip of Jessica Simpson's sex tape with Tony Romo.

Like i said, big difference between TMZ and the Enquirer.

You've exposed my apathy for pop culture.

Did you get a degree in marketing to pop culture, or is there some other reason you have a relentless fascination with pop culture?

Your knowledge of it is truly amazing, but why would anybody devote so much time to something that brings so little enjoyment?

It is a fair question, and I will give you my best answer.

There are many on this site who love to study the nuiances of culture as it existed in prior eras......religion, politics, economics, government, etc...

I definitely enjoy that, as well.

What some call "pop culture," I view as the study of culture, religion, politics, economics, and government as it exists today. Today's pop culture is simply the classics of tomorrow. Keep in mind that I do not view "pop culture" as strictly movie stars and rock concerts. I view it as any current events and news....any popular culture.

In 500 years, SeattleUte XXIII will be pompously referencing the obscure "Naked Mormon Calendar Letter" in an attempt to persuade people that his great-great-great....etc grandfather really wasn't crazy and that the LDS Church really is not true.

Of course, SeattleUteXXIII will be the first one in a long line of SeattleUte apostates to convert back to the LDS Church when forensics show that his bloodline really wasnt that of the actual SeattleUte, but of a humble personal chef that would prepare meals for his namesake's wife and family and "deliver" them to their home.

CardiacCoug 07-12-2008 12:56 PM

CNN has it under "Top Stories" now.

When will the Church learn that by disciplining members for this stuff they are giving free publicity to the very thing they oppose? It's counterproductive.

There is probably more to this guys disciplinary hearing than simply the calendar. If not, then the Church really learns to ignore this stuff so it doesn't get blown up in the media.
