my new hobby is building stuff out of wood

between kids, work, church calling and other things having a hard time finding the time to work on projects. But will do so soon.

Hah! I think I remember what it was like to have a hobby.

I'm going to build a raised planter. Probably this Saturday.

Nothing fancy.

Post pics when you do. I'm always interested in different ways to display plants.

Nice. Any idea what you're going to put in it?

We have some long rectangular plastic planters.

Made a kids-sized picnic table. That was fun and pretty easy.

MikeWaters 12-17-2012 01:22 AM

Made a second picnic table this weekend. Going to be a gift. With the bolts and screws (and wood of course), costs about $45 in materials to make. That does not include stain/paint. If I had just used wood screws, would be a little bit cheaper. But I like using bolts, partly because I can take potentially take the table apart if I move.

I don't think I will make a third. :)

Turning into an expensive hobby. The tools and implements are not cheap.

With that second picnic table, I burned their kids' names into with a burning tool. I liked how that worked out. Going to do the same with the picnic table I made for my kids.

Hoping to do some more intricate work with finer woods now. Have some hand tools to do it with.

Might make some beehive supers from scratch as well.

Made an adirondack chair which turned out ok.

These projects on hold now as I tackle beekeeping.
