LDS Twitter account blocks its own

I was blocked by the LDS Church's twitter account. I have admittedly said some controversial things.

But the LDS Church's official twitter account has also blocked all kinds of my acquaintances who are liberal without even agitating much. I find this fascinating.

I decided to consult the Community of Christ on the matter:

I didn't even know that the church has a twitter account.

Some of the apostles have twitter accounts although I doubt they control them personally.

They are even advertising / recruiting "social media experts." Kate Kelly said she might consider applying.

What is the value of twitter?

I had a twitter account but never used it. I have never followed anybody on twitter. From what I can discern from afar, twitter is used by celebrities to keep them in the news. Do you earn money by how many people follow you? What is the economics of it?

I have a twitter account to follow mostly media persons. It's a quick way to get a glimpse of what is going on and to get links to interesting information. Including sports. I found out about Jimmer by checking my twitter feed before going to bed. The tweets come out before the articles.

How does one follow a twitter account? I don't understand how somebody is "blocked" from following an account.

You sign up on twitter. Then you search for accounts that you might find interesting, depending on what you like. For example, maybe you would enjoy following fitness fanatics and cycling pros. Then whenever you want, on your phone or on your desktop, you can quickly check your twitter feed and scan what those people are saying. A lot of them may be linking to blogs or articles and you can click if u want.

There is a block option. And they tell you when you are blocked. I enjoy using it from my phone but not from my computer.

Once you start following people, a personal community of sorts develops. It's kind of interesting.

Jeff Holland has not blocked me, nor has the Mormon Newsroom.

Give Twitter a chance! It is fantastic. Choose who you follow carefully and you can meet TONS of people who you otherwise wouldn't talk with. It allows you to explore new ideas and points of view in a safe environment. You should check it out!

A safe environment is very important for Archaea.

I've been blocked

I guess I deserved it with my devilish contention. But it seems like a stupid PR move. I pay tithing and serve in my calling. I want to complain on twitter. That gets me blocked by my own church? I complain about my local paper but they don't block me.

Why don't more people sense there is a bigger problem when an organization shows such fear, and need to control? If questions and a respectful vetting of ideas are not allowed suspicion should increase......

Yes. SoonerCoug and LiberalCougar are on a list.

LiberalCougar 07-19-2014 07:51 PM

We are?

Did cousin Hal tell you we are on a list? I haven't been summoned to anyone's office so far!

My bishop tried to come over. I know him from work. We have a good working relationship, but I politely declined home visits. That said, I'm interested in returning to church at some point.

LiberalCougar 07-20-2014 03:19 AM

They'll be nice

Are you waiting for a new bishop before you go ? There's a coalition of covert liberals praying for your return. :)

It's not the bishop. I'm waiting for a new Q of 12.

LiberalCougar 07-20-2014 03:50 AM

That would be nice

You've got to nag your kin to make the changes, the way your relatives got priesthood to all races.

My dad asked Eyring to perform my first sealing. He said no. Bridge burned.

LiberalCougar 07-20-2014 03:30 PM

Ah so Hal was always a snob. My ancestor converted his ancestor. Doesn't that get me in a higher kingdom?
