Been lurking on your board for about a week. I'm not into debate and probably don't have anything "smart" to say, so will probably just lurk for the most part. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. I might answer, and if I don't I'll at least give you a reason.

That's good. Because I didn't like Aaron very much. He gave evangelicals a bad name by constantly putting down our religion.

That is great. I am interested in knowing what an Evangelical is. I think Billy Grahm is evangelical. I think Pat Robertson is evangelical. Dobson I think is. I think Swaggert is evangelical.

I hear evangelical, but admit when it comes down to it I am ignorant really of what an evangelical is. For instance, are Catholics evangelical?

Well then I don't mind being called a cult anymore if Catholics get labeled the same way. We should start our own cult football conference. ND, Boston College and BYU. Any other teams??

Frankly, me too, but I was really hesitant to use "Baptist Lurker" as my name since I know my faith has been, to say the least, unfair to yours. (I'm pretty sure I'm going to get banned now that my religious affliation is out there.)

I have never met a shy evangelical. Isn't that a contradiction of terms?

One thing I am sure of is people get labeled. I was a gung ho "evangelist" supporter. My conservative political views are pretty much in line with most evangelists. However, when some started labeling my beliefs as cultist, it changed my feelings. I don't mind someone saying my beliefs are wrong, heck I spent two years telling people theirs were wrong. However, I don't like to be called names besides.

You are more than welcome here. The only way we understand and learn is to communicate, IMHO. Besides we have liberal mormons on this board, they are the scourge of the earth.

Yeah, I suppose it is. Really, talking is not one of my gifts, I tend to stutter, especially when nervous - good thing that doesn't translate while typing.

I love Catholics. I married one. Who's now an atheist. But that's another story.

Also, Lurker, you'll be happy to hear I've only seen the phrase "retarded evangelicals" used here once. So hopefully you'll find it a mostly friendly atmosphere.

And since Aaron Shaf appeared to actually BE one, the term was likely not misused.

Good, let's just hope I don't add to the reputation that Aaron has apparantly given us, then there will be no need to toss it my direction.

Don't take it to personal if someone happens to jump on you. There will be those who will come to your aid.

If you would like a safer environment to operate in there is another site I could suggest. You would get the "washed" version of BYU fans and their friends.

For background, Mr. Lurker, I was raised evangelical. Am more progressive Christian now. It's only by a series of (odd but) fortunate events that I found my way here.

I think it is more we are a suspicious type. We finally have the most important thing there is going right now, no not Romney up in the polls. We look like we might be back in football.

We need to make sure you aren't a spy intent on taking us back to mediocrity.

I googled somebody, their name came up on a message board. That message board had a link to another, which had a link to a post here.

OK, so I'm a googler - that's it. I like to google people to see what they are up to. In other words, I'm a snoop - sometimes snooping can lead you to half way interesting places.

I would tend to think this a kinder, gentler version of BYU fans, especially as it relates to conversing with those of other faiths. Fights get stopped before they get started on CB, but I would bet there's a better chance at a dialogue here with a fellow titled Evangelical Lurker.

What I meant was you get a view of the washed down members. Kind of like the ones on South Park.:)

i found this board via googleing some one too,but i actually had been informed about cougarboard by sooner.i wasnot fit there becuase i couldnot read religious posts and i had to donate which i would if i could.(becuase of not being in the state)
and i am glad that i didnot have to introduce myself ,it sounds a little bit like interrogation..owowwowo
i appreciate sooner for doing the job though.
