Vegas

Flash and I went to Las Vegas last weekend, where I heard a rumor that Vegas was actually founded by Mormons. That can't possibly be true....can it??

It's true. Wikipedia isn't the most reliable source, but it does get the founding of LV accurate.

Not really.

I haven't looked at the Wikipedia article, and maybe it is discussed there, but the church owned most of the strip at one time and sold it off to casinos.

That's hilarious. So, according to wikipedia, Vegas either was or wasn't founded by the Church.

Well, according to the city's official website, "1855 - Members of the Mormon Church choose Las Vegas as the site to build a fort halfway between Salt Lake City and Los Angeles, where they would travel to gather supplies. The remainder of the Mormon Fort http://www.lasvegasnevada.gov/images...ternalLink.gif can still be seen at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Washington Avenue. The fort was abandoned several years later."

Indeed. I must admit that Flash and I found the local Mormon community quite charming...or its representatives, anyhow. Sadly, said representatives wore neither sequins nor feathers. Terribly disappointing.

If you want sequins and feathers as a part of your Vegas Mormon experience, I believe you need to visit Archaea's ward.

Nah. I visited his ward. Plain vanilla LDS.

That is disappointing to learn.

Not even a disco ball in the chapel?
