LDS malls downtown

Has anyone heard when construction will begin on the new malls downtown? I am very surprised they haven't even given public plans for the malls yet. Any ideas what the hold-ups are?

Last I heard, the tenants in Crossroads were being told they should leave immediately upon expiration of their leases. That suggests imminent construction, but it is hard to think construction is coming soon without even having heard of plans for the malls yet.

Thoughts?

i am a huge skyscraper junky, and since this plan will include skyscrapers, I have been keeping tabs. Seems the holdup is some tenant in the Key bank building. the LDS church plans to demolish the Key Bank building, and has gotten everyone out, except a law firm who won't move. Until that is taken care of, the church can't do anything.

I thought they were planning on turning crossroads into byu salt lake cause they can't build anymore down in provo. Apparently a lot of Utah County Mormons were not happy with the church in that they pay a lot of tithing and their kids can't get into byu (probably hearsay but its what I heard). So the church decided they wouldn't expand byu provo anymore to appease these people and would expand in Salt Lake. Personally I think a better option would be to put the MTC in Salt Lake (where it used to be and closer to the airport) and then Use the MTC to expand for byu provo. Just MHO

That would probably work really well, except there probably isn't a place in downtown with enough space that the missionaries could walk to the temple the way they do in Provo. Also, about 90% of the MTC employees are BYU students and paid through BYU payroll.

they are building a BYU SL campus there along with a LDS business college campus.. probably in it's own tower. So, there will be a renovated mall, the two colleges and 900 units of housing.

I believe that the BYU SL center and LDSBC will be done with summer, because they are moving July 13. :)

Not sure what you mean. Crossroads mall is right across the street from the temple

I hadn't considered the mall as a possible MTC.

Any idea why they haven't at least released plans for the malls? Who is the tenant?

Have you seen this page?

I've seen plans for the construction a couple different times. By plans, do you mean a timeline?
