I am cynical, but he supposedly tested positive for testosterone, which would be so incredibly stupid on his part that it is hard to believe. Time will tell.

honestly, I am willing to bet that 90% of tour de francers are doping.. we know that the best cyclists are, so everyone else pretty much HAS to to keep up...

I don't think Lance doped.

Lance was better than everybody in almost in any sport he chose.

As a kid, he was a swimmer.

Then he went to triathloning, beating nationally ranked pros as a junior. He started winning single day races early and recovered from cancer.

If he doped, it would have been during the initial return year, but after that, he's either got extremely sophisticated medical technology, or he didn't dope.

I choose to go with the latter until proven otherwise.

This is where I come down also, although I am preapred to be dispapointed.

Landis' test just makes no snese to me. I iwill wait and see just what turns up.

I'm not naive, but am holding out that not everybody is a liar and a cheat. Perhaps I err; the law sure shows me many people cheat and lie and many of them are respectable persons.

I'm holding out hope there is a reasonable explanation for Landis, as steroids don't make sense for a cyclist. I wonder if it's related to the cortisone shots he gets for his hips.

It could be. The timing is so bad (test after stage 17), however, that even if there is a plausible explanation, everyone will think he cheated. Of all the things that he might have taken or risked taking on that day, testosterone seems like it would be way down the list, bioth becasue it is likely to be of little value and becasue it is so easy to test for.

Any of you doctors out there know if testosterone is a metabolic product of any other substance? IOW, is it a marker for use of somethign else? I am not aware that it is, but I have limited knowledge here.

Some steroids are catabolic, and some are not (I forget the other term).

Do not forget, false positives do occur. We really should wait for the results of the B test. Because steroids make no sense.

Floyd probably just blew the testers away by having any testosterone in his system at all. After Lance "uniball" Armstrong and all of the cheese eatin' surrender monkeys they're used to in France, a measurement of the testosterone output from the size of balls it took to pull off that stage 17 win must have blown their minds.

I so hope it is nothing more than a mistake. This would suck in such a huge way.

My feeling, there is such a small possibility of a false positive in this case that you can pretty well take this one to the Rabobank (Bah Da Boom).

What are the possible outcomes here? Will he be stripped of the Tour title for sure if Sample B comes back positive? Can you imagine how he must have felt when they came around with the pee cup afterward? Reminds me of that recent "Office" episode when they were drug testing everyone in the office when Dwight found a joint in the parking lot. Boss (I can't remember Steve Carrel's character name right now) smoked a joint the previous weekend at an Alicia Keys concert and says " I won't be tested. I didn't have to go to the bathroom at this time and who's to say that anything will come out anyway." Funny stuff.
