Gavin Menzies' work is worth reading. Whether his claims are true is unknown, but why some dismiss them out of hand is beyond me.

aren't polynesians and micronesians evidence enough that "primitive" people could zoom around on boats for thousands of miles?

Somewhere near the end of the book of Alma, Helaman mentions Hagoth the adventurer, who sailed away and never was heard from again. President Kimball later said he believed Hagoth later filled the polynesian islands, or something like that.

I think it was David O. McKay who told members in New Zealand once that they were the decendants of Hagoth. McKay also said kava was not against the word of wisdom. I liked him.
