Ghost bikes

Has anyone ever seen one of these? They are old bikes, painted white and placed on the side of the road at the site where a cyclist was killed by a car.

A couple of weeks ago, while SteelBlue and I were driving home from a run, we passed the site where the local cyclist was killed 2 months ago. There, leaning against a road sign was a ghost bike. I had never heard of it until then.

It was kind of a haunting image.

This is not the one we saw, but another one in Portland.

PS. Why is it only showing the link and not the pic?

I read an article about ghost bikes in Bicycling magazine last month. I think it's a great idea and as you said it leaves passers by with memorable image. For those who don't know, it's a bike painted white and placed very near the spot where a cyclist has been killed. Fastened to the bike is a sign that reads "a cyclist was killed here".

I have only seen photos. I think it is a good idea.
