Predictions for Tuesday?
I predict the Big XII will not expand and CB will go into a tizzy.
OTOH, I am terrible in the prognostication business, so if it turns out I am wrong, I can be happy. I am of course great at hedging. A number of people are convinced a deal has been struck. Where have I heard that before? |
With the announcement coming out of the ACC today I think the Big 12 is dangerously close to being picked apart by the other P5 leagues. With only ten members, if the other P5 leagues all took one or two a piece, the Big 12 could quickly be stuck with less than six members, which means under NCAA rules it would instantly disband and there would be no league left to enforce the grant of rights the schools signed. The B12 could probably protect itself from that by adding two teams. But you're right they probably won't. As a group they're just too stupid.

Holy crap!!!!

They will expand! They have given commissioner Bowlsby authorization to get the teams. This is essentially the same message the Pac 12 put out there years ago when they told Larry Scott to do that. All the national commentators saying it would be a definite no to expansion were wrong. Wow.

My life is just dandy right now. In multiple dimensions.

That is positive. |
The mainstream national media people were all pretty much universally wrong. They were lazy and not looking for or following their leads.
Several of the locally based media in Big 12 markets were right. They were following leads and doing some actual reporting. Mixed bag on the non-traditional bloggers. Some were right. Others just didn't know anything or had no sources but were commenting anyway. |
cougarboard was pretty funny yesterday -- like one of the more extreme negative posters who was on a rampage calling everyone who was trying to listen in on the news conference, "a bunch of pathetic losers." I'm guessing he doesn't show up much for a while.

poll of Big 12 football coaches.
http://espn.go.com/college-football/...spn-poll-shows Surprising that Houston is so heavily favored. |

Some of presidents (Gee, Boren, the canned Starr) don't hate us. At least half the coaches don't hate us. |

Commissioner Bowlsby on Mike and Mike this morning said geography isn't that big of a deal anymore like it may have been 25 years ago. He said electronic footprint matters now. Very good signs for BYU. The idea of bringing in a team that doesn't have most of its fanbase concentrated in one market is a plus for them. He could have said something totally different if the strengths BYU brings to the table aren't important to them. Also encouraging is the statement Holmoe tweeted out immediately after the B12 announcement (within minutes) saying BYU is very interested. That was cued up ready to go. They clearly knew what was being discussed in the meetings and were sitting ready to make a positive statement on it. However you interpret the history of BYU and the Big 12, what is happening today looks completely different. |

"If Big 12 presidents were to vote on the rest of a list right now, I'd be willing to bet it'd be BYU, then Cincinnati, and then some mix of Houston, Memphis, and UConn. But if your list doesn't start with BYU, crumple it up and try harder."

imagine if they add 4 and BYU isn't one of them.
I hope BYU is added in football AND basketball. |
|
Imagine if the Big 12 expanded with 2 to 4 Pac-12 teams. Not sure what the financial ramifications are for a Pac-12 team exiting, but that would be a huge shocker. And BYU would be screwed, as I don't think even a desperate Pac takes BYU.

It would be sweet justice to be sitting in a prettier position than Utah.
Pac-12 might as well be in another country with all their PST games that start after 9pm CST. I hardly watch any Pac-12 games. |
