Interesting last couple of weeks on TBS

I first want to make it very clear I really enjoy that site. Each site I participate in has it's pluses and minuses. What is fun for me is to watch human nature and how I rightly or wrongly perceive it.

The plus for me in that site is it stories and information about recruits, players and coaches. As far as good discussion it is about the same as sitting in High Priest class and not challenging the teacher. That is probably good, you don't want a brawl in HP class. However, numerous times I have walked out and someone tapped me on the shoulder and said, "isn't brother so and so full of crap."

That site has allowed the degrading of people on CB, people on this site, quite frankly indicating pictures of porn are allowed, degrading of Utes, players and coaches. Anything that isn't BYU.

They kissed Kessmans butt all through the recruiting process only to turn on him like we do the neighbor who after all the cookies we give them won't take the lessons.

Somehow this week they turned on each other. It really wasn't very becoming for that site. Even the requirement to use real names, only site I believe in all of college football that does, did not stop the nastiness.

It was a good lesson in what could happen if people thought they really could speak their mind in High Priest group meeting. Speaking openly is good for some forums, TBS and HP group meeting aren't those forums.

Wow, I kind of feel dirty posting on the board here, but with cougarboard down I have to get my fix in somewhere. I kind of feel like when I go and buy beer at the store (for cooking brats of course) hopefully no one sees me here. Anywho, it wasn't ALL that bad on TBS, it was mainly just an overbearing parent trying to stir the pot. Everyone is just a little to cautious when it comes to parents. Kind of like when on CB everyone starts to kiss Cougarmoms butt after she posts ANYTHING. Though I don't nec. agree with lundgren it was refreshing to have someone call out the parent in question. Sometimes it can get to be too much of a lovefest on TBS.

It went well beyond simply calling a parent out. Of course, most of those posts have been deleted, so it's hard to see now everything that transpired last weekend.

I agree totally with you. However, lovefest is what BYU wants that place to be. I think Brandon or Talo said it was the only site in the college world that requires real names.

It not only got personal with Martinez, but also with a father of a prized recruit in Hawaii. I do deeply regret that as I didn't think he was stirring up anything. His story about his first encounter with Bronco was interesting.

Whose first encounter with Bronco? Te'os dad or Martinez? What did he say? I am a member of TBS and I couldnt find anything.

My personal opinion is that we dont get Martinez regardless, in his dads own words he said:

"now that LSU and USC have offered his dream schools, lets see if he keeps BYU in his top 5"

I think his dad is trying to hype his son and he has made numerous comments about this, talking about John expecting over 70 offers, being first team all-american at the combine, every new offer he posts about it. I can see why it woudl get tiresome when BYU has no shot at this kid.

Also I do think a few posters one of which posts on this board did get a little out of hand. But it is what it is, and if a handful of fans out of your whole fan base affect your kids decision where to attend school I can only imagine how much he will struggle on the raod in the SEC with 100k yelling things about his mama.

bronco

talk about a tough job, I think I'd snap if I had to deal with all these prima donna parents like Bronco has to. So there is a miscommunication and Bronco fails to strike up a conversation with the recruits dad at a fireside. The Dad doesn't bother to even check into what happened and goes away disgruntled and doesn't talk to Bronco for 6 months. It's all patched up now but wow. I feel for Bronco.

I always get a kick out of the grab ass that goes on with recruits. This is one of the reasons I love Bronco because he doesn't play the game. He is not going to kiss a parent's ass or look like a used car salesman to a recruit. He has a great presentation of what BYU is and is not.

As great as Martinez is or will be. Offensive linemen is one type of recruit BYU has NEVER had a problem getting so if he or Ofa come than great for them. If they don't come, there are plenty of guys that will jump. Now if Martinez was a shut down corner, wide receiver, or running back my tune would change a little bit.

Trolling parents never go over well. They have a popmous disregard for everyone. That said, it's best just to ignore them and hope they go away. Don't feed the ego.

I am not sure we know the whole story on this one. I can see Bronco setting up the meeting before hand, shows up late and talks to someone else. You can't deny someone of Bronco's status and how things are going for him just might think the guy will stick around because he is honored to chat with Bronco.

I would have left too. Of course I hate firesides and it would have been a great excuse to leave.

Bronco has a tough job. I think you have to have Bronco's personality to survive and thrive in the current BYU environment. However, base on some of the things he has said, I wouldn't vote for him as the warm and cuddly coach of the year.

He has chewed out fans for booing and told them to get a life. That's fine with me, I will accept that attitude towards fans as long as he is winning.

I have absolutely zero regret for exposing Steve Martinez real intentions.

FWIW -- another parent of a player on that site emailed me some really interesting things regarding that Mr. Martinez had told this parent and that this parent said I had hit the nail on the head and that Mr. Martinez was pissed that I was on to his charade...and what he was planning on doing, so for those who he think he's an innocent bystander would be wrong. The guy had a distinct plan from the get go and that has been confirmed by more than one source...and while most kissed his ass to the extreme,,,I had zero problem exposing him for the piece of shit that he is.

I respect his son John Martinez a lot,,,but his Dad is a Daddy Marinovich clone to the extreme.
