1 John 5:8

AA or Solon, why do the last few words translate into "these three agree."

Crudely, I see "exist in one", is that just a weird way of saying, "agree"?

Quote:

τὸ πνεῦμα καὶ τὸ ὕδωρ καὶ τὸ αἷμα καὶ οἱ τρεῖς εἰς τὸ ἕν εἰσιν
And is the final kai significant?

I would think that the translation "these three agree" is an attempt to convey the meaning which a literal translation may not convey. Literally, yes, it says that they are three in one. The translators are trying to stay away from trinitarianism.

And I believe the final kai introduces a new main clause. Starting with verse seven: "For there are three witnesses: the spirit and the water and the blood; and these three are one."
