It's terrible to speculate, but the only rumblings I've heard are related to academics. A terrible loss for the basketball team. We don't have anybody to replace what he can do, even if he played mostly in a reserve roll.

My basketball eyes are crying.

I can't say that I am surprised.

There are lots of kids who go to BYU and then decide to leave. Some of them my friends.

Zulu for example started at BYU, but chose not to finish at BYU. It had nothing to do with unworthiness or academic failure.

I have another friend (he's a friend now, didn't know him when he was college-aged) who started at BYU, but finished at Utah. He's a strong member.

I guess the thing that makes this different is Loyd has so much more at stake (assuming bball is important to him). He will now only have 1 year of bball left in his career after sitting out a transfer year.

Part of this may very well be frustration at having to sit behind Jimmer. I think it's possible that Loyd could have been better than Jimmer next year. Loyd has a lot more upside than Jimmer.

Lloyd has the physical abilities that Jimmer will never have.

He can transfer to DII school and play immediately. And the pros would take note of him. I wish we could have made it work for him as he was exciting when he was on. His skills may not be rare at a Big East school but rare for BYU, as in never before.

I have a problem with what I'm reading. It sounds as if Lloyd simply had problems with conforming to our culture, not our rules. Shame on us.

BYU is at fault for this, we tend to be so much about conformity and so little about unity. Strict conservatives within our culture mistake one for the other.

We are much poorer for the loss of Michael Lloyd, Jr., and I wonder if we're either going to do something about it. We can find a bunch of white cpa's any where but how will we enrich ourselves if that is all that we ever attract and retain.

It is a very disruptive event to attract nonLDS black athletes only to see a disproportionate enough of such athletes not stay at BYU. I wish administration and the culture would strive harder to make it easier to embrace all, especially those who qualify academically and via the Honor Code.

We need to be truly introspective about ourselves through this loss. Why can't our culture do better, be more helpful. So what if he had a Mohawk, or a tongue piercing. I'm certain there were other aspects at play but it is disappointing that BYU failed here.
