Neither cyclists nor runners should be using headphones in those situations. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Sad, but I've had runners nearly cause so many accidents.

cyclists need to use extreme caution when pedestrians are on a jogging trail. They need to give a wide berth, slow down, and announce their presence. Ride defensively.

It appears, from grapevine reports, that the pedestrian here, Ms. Huddleston, sustained massive brain trauma, and has had a craniotomy performed. She may die.

I don't care if you think it's the pedestrian's fault, if you kill someone while on your bike, you are going to have to live with that. Imagine if it had been a child. Too many cyclists worried about their time and their training and not being prudent and safe.

She died.

very sad.

Pedestrians and cyclists owe a duty to themselves and to each other to be more careful when they share the road with each other.

I've had most pedestrians be very polite and considerate though I've had pedestrians crowd the path at times, which is frustrating and dangerous if they do it on blind spots.

I've seen the absent minded pedestrians with music totally oblivious to the surrounding events.

yeah, that's why if you are a cyclist you need to assume the worst.

A lot of times these paths have kids on them as well. And they are completely unpredictable. It's just sad that this led to a death, because most of the time, it would be scrapes, and at worst a broken bone.

We had a case here in Dallas of two cyclists colliding head-on leading to the death of one of them. They were going around the street that is used as a crit course. Except one of them was riding the opposite way as usual.

Anyone that cycles has thought of the possibility of dying as a result. Not many of us have thought about what it would mean to kill someone.

I have been injured avoiding pedestrians so I cannot imagine the horror of actually striking somebody.

Here's a news report of her death.
