NBA draft combine
Sabonis not invited.
Unsurprisingly, neither was Collinsworth. http://www.nba.com/2016/news/05/06/m...draft-combine/ |

No idea. Not good enough?

He was invited by declined. Which is being framed as an unusual decision for someone in the range of where he will likely be drafted.

Honestly the thing that would worry me about him is what I perceive as his lack of athleticism. Lack of ups. I think he would get to the combine and look to be not very explosive compared to the competition.
He's a little bit of a dinosaur. A power forward who is not a shooter, won't stretch the floor. |
I guess his upside is something like a smaller poor man's Marc Gasol. Smart, rebounding.

I was at the Gonzaga at SMU game in Dallas. Sabonis dominated the inside even though SMU had some tall athletic bigs. True, he did not try to shoot too far from the basket, but he grabbed a ridiculous number of rebounds and could score very well under the basket, sometimes even if double teamed. On the other hand, SMU put a tall athletic guy on Wiltjer who was quick enough to guard him on the perimeter. He made Wiltjer look terrible. Most SMU fans came away from there with no idea they were even supposed to think Wiltjer was the star of the other team.

Is he a Tristan Thompson who is a better passer, more crafty around the basket, but not as long or athletic?
Maybe the Mavs will draft him. |
