garage door opener..

i bought a garage door opener.. after putting it all together and installing it, the sensors work, the key pad works, and it shuts and opens beautifully.. i'm sure it will add about 25k in equity to the house. :)

there is one big problem however, when i shut the garage, it mysteriously opens back up. i've read in the manual about adjusting the settings, but it's still not working. maybe i'll be able to figure out tomorrow when i'm not so tired..

Typically, this is one of two problems:

1. There's a safety device on most openers that will automatically reverse the direction of the door if it encounters too much resistance. This could be set to be too sensitive.

2. The closed-door limit is set too low.

Issue #2 can cause #1 to engage, and is much more common. Set it higher, so the door is closing with about an inch of clearance, then move it down until you get one part of the door to touch the floor. (note that it's common for one part of the door to touch the floor, and others to be a tad higher).
