Fund Raising success
Well, we had our annual Victoria Day Ward party tonight -bbq, fireworks, games and fun at a member’s home who owns four acres. I was the auctioneer for the desert auction to get the girls to camp this summer –my wife is Ward camp director.
We raised over $700! I think I missed my calling in life 8-) Now if I can just convince the Bishop that the Scouts are deserving of a little of that money, we will have scout camp paid for this summer also!! |
Don't they sell cookies? What is the $4 per box that I paid going towards?

The very last cake, a sickly sweat german chocolate, topped with hersey kisses and rolo's,and shaved white and dark chocolate like shredded cheese sold for $120 ... it's all in the presentation ... man the bidding was out of hand!

Our ward had a similar "silent" auction recently to help raise girls camp funds. At one point, the bidding was fairly slow. A buddy of mine stands up and says, "Whoever is willing to pay more than $50 for this cake gets to smash it in my face."
The bidding takes off, several people go together and the cake eventually goes for about $75. Just as they are getting ready to smash the cake in his face, a mom stands up and says, "My daughter worked really hard on the cake and I don't think she would appreciate you destroying it like that." The room goes quiet, and then my buddy grabs another cake and says, "Would any one be offended if I smashed this one in my face?" Second cake goes for $50 and he gets a face full of chocolate. BTW, Red Mormon Death, great quote in your signature line. I had similar thoughts watching the Preakness when people were crying in the stands when he pulled up hurt. I guess I just don't understand animals. |
