Dobson strikes again

In perhaps his most deplorable move ever, Focus on the Family's James Dobson (this is the guy who coordinated the attacks against Romney on behalf of Huck), is circulating a letter describing the United States after four years of Obama.

A few highlights:

• Supreme court requires Boy Scouts to "hire homosexual scoutmasters and allow them to sleep in tents with young boys."
• Frequent disasters due to Obama's "reluctance to send troops overseas, Russia occupying the Baltic states and Eastern European countries including Poland and the Czech Republic, and al-Qaeda overwhelming Iraq.
• Nationalized health care with no access to hospitals for people over 80. Others die while they wait in long lines to see substandard doctors.
• No dissemination of any religious information via any media. Such rhetoric is now classified as inciteful "hate speech."
• Skyrocketing numbers of abortions as the procedure is now offered free of charge and doctors have their licenses revoked if they decline to terminate pregnancies.
• Pornography is required to be publicly displayed on magazine stands along with other publications.
• No guns, no homeschooling, no unions, no jobs, no gasoline. And perhaps worst of all, no James Dobson -- as he's been censored and removed from the airwaves. (we can only hope.)

It goes on and on and on.

We have GOT to get this guy out of our politics. He's like poison.

The ignorance of this letter is remarkable. It's sad to see the use of such rank scare tactics. The right's primary export right now is fear. They will have a long exile . . . This letter is a big "booga wooga" to get us all to go "Aaaaaah" in fright. That reminds me, the "A says 'aaah. The A says 'aaaah'. Everybody, something something, the A says 'aaaah.'"

The sad thing is it will work for many Americans. Of course, all those people were going to vote McCain anyway. But still, this kind of rhetoric has no place in a civil society. We should all be disgusted and we really need to figure out how to get this guy out of our politics.

Any bets as to how long it takes for me to receive this as a mass-forwarded spam?

I saw an article about this letter in the paper the other day. Yet more evidence that the religious right is crazy. I am sick and tired of fear mongering. But you are right: this stuff works for a lot of people. My mother would probably eat this up.

The Boy Scouts have pretty strict rules, including barring Scoutmasters from sleeping in tents with boys. So on this point he's either a liar or he's badly misinformed.

who constantly scare old people with their Social Security being taken away if Republicans get in office? That same kind of fear? Who would have thought people would have to vote on the definition of marriage? They didn't think that would be necessary back in the Clinton years when the 'marriage' law was passed.

I know it's disgusting.

Baltic states? And we're going to use our military to defend those baltic states? No nationalized healthcare? Some religious tenets are NOW considered hate speech......even by some on Cougarguard. Abortions will increase as Medicaid will be required to pay for abortions......advocated by some on Cougarguard. Even Ohbama has said that if al Queda were to go back into Iraq, it would require US intervention. so I guess your messiah has even considered that as a possibility.

In other words, most of what he has said seems pretty reasonable and you can see some of it happening now.

So he's most likely right on the majority of those things he claims. Some seems outlandish, but then again I didn't think a crucifix in a jar of urine was art. But don't poke fun at Muslims and their religion.

And it's thanks to voters like you that he will maintain his control of the party. He's probably the single most powerful figure in contemporary American politics. And no, exUte, he has no equivalent on the left.

So, I think you seem to be saying that no single person should have so much influence on politics - is that correct?

I personally don't have a problem with a single person having such a large influence on politics as long as the influence is in the arena of ideas and speech - (i.e. not in the illegal arenas of fraudulent voting, violence, coercion, etc.). Dobson's influence is powerful because people agree with his message. Other than countering Dobson's message with a better message, how exactly do you propose that Dobson be taken out of politics?
