Why are blacks rooting for Bonds?
 

I don't see how it is race-affirming for a cheating black man (overwhelmingly, blacks don't think Bonds used steroids) to beat another black man's record?

Why do blacks feel good when Bonds beats Aaron?

Can't the races be united on hating Bonds? How hard is this?

I think it boils down to the fact that 1) Bonds is an acknowledged asshole and 2) he is a cheater.

What does baseball have if not for its cheaters...the black sox scandle, pine tar, Pete Rose, the Steriod Era...seems like Baseball has made its own bed...and as such, Bonds should be celebrated as the new home run king.

In the long run it won't matter anyway. A-Rod will break what Bonds breaks. Right now he's 175 homers ahead of where Barry was at the same point in his career.

By then Hispanics will revel in hating A-Rod even more because of his dashing charm and good looks.

I honestly wonder about Bonds' safety. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone take a shot at him before he can pass the record. People are pretty passionate about this, and crazy people are absurdly passionate about this.

I'm with DrumNFeather. I'm breaking with my white brothers and declaring that Bonds should be celebrated as the Home Run King.

I'm rooting against Bonds because he's the epitome of a jerk.

That said, if he'd just come clean and admit that he has cheated, I believe more people would accept him as the all-time HR leader if he would quit denying it. Also, I don't know how much the steroids actually helped him hit HRs as what they've done is helped him hit the ball 475 ft instead of 400 ft. He still had to put the ball on the bat. And it didn't hurt him one bit that when they built SBC Park, the right field wall isn't as deep as it was at Candlestick.

Bonds is going to break the Aaron's record, but history will look back at the legacy that either player left behind and they'll be remembered as this:

Aaron was a good guy who played hard and hit 755 without steroids.

Bonds was an asshole who hit hit the most home runs, but he used steroids to increase the distance on his hits and also had fences that were closer to home plate.

And I really doubt that there will never be a candy bar made in honor of Barry Bonds.

Baseball should be banned. It's not a sport, it's a parlor game. I compare it to bowling and pool. A good game of poker requires more endurance.

Baseball will always hold the title of "America's pastime." It's in our blood whether we want to admit it or not.
