best way to sharpen a pocket knife?

Those metal sharpening rods that chefs use--are they good for pocket knives?

How do they compare to sharpening stones.

I have a cheap carbide/ceramic device for sharpening.

Then you have all that diamond stuff.

It was much simpler when I was a boy scout.

Of course when the other boys were slaving over sharpening stones, I brought my parents sharpener that has metal discs you ran the blade over. I was done in two swipes.

I know that all the people I taught in the mission field that worked at the slaughterhouses spent just as much time with this blue grit sandpaper on their sharpeners as they did their knives. I think the steel sharpeners only work on good sharp knives to begin with.

My dad has a pocket knife that can is like a razor and take hair right off your arm and he used a whet stone.
