I do have some sympathy for Gingrich

I do have some sympathy for Gingrich for this reason: he reminds me of myself a little bit.

Better with creativity and ideas than nuts-and-bolts administration. More a revolutionary than an executive. In weak moments, prone to overwrought grandiose or apocalyptic language. Inflated sense of self worth.

Look at Gingrich, a real historical figure having led to the GOP takeover of congress. And just a short time later, his lieutenants had plotted against him and forced him out. I don't think CG was "revolutionary." I only wanted a place where people could post about stuff without censhorship from mods. But I think I did learn a thing or two about the tables turning.

I don't think Gingrich would make a good president. And I'm also pretty convinced that I would be a lousy president as well. I see a little Gingrich in me. Not a lot. Just a little. I'm probably a little bit more principled and value loyalty more, in terms of personality style (I'm sure my wife will be relieved).

Maybe following campaigns is a useful exercise. A window into ourselves, with all of our weaknesses and foibles in the crucible. What is our true essence? After boiling away all of the outer layers, the facades, what is left when you are bare, naked and exposed? I'm not sure many of us truly know. We may hope for something good and decent, noble and courageous, God willing.
