My son came home from school wearing...

A cross necklace. He and all the other kindergarteners got one as a little gift for being so good today. I haven't said anything to him about it, but wow am I peeved. This is totally out of line for a public school. I have seen Muslim women coming to pick up their children from school. Certainly there are Jewish and other non-Christian children that attend the school as well. I hate to make a fuss and perpetuate the belief that Mormons are not Christians, but this is something I just can't stay silent about. What do you all think? How would you handle this if it was your child?

I think you ask to see the principle and in a very nice way say "I'm certain you weren't aware this was happening, but ..." and then tell him/her that your son's well meaning teacher has crossed a line. I don't think it has to be nasty.

I would be inclined to not say anything, but this would be the next best alternative.

Ah, you gotta love Mississippi. I thought of you and Danimal as I drove through Jackson last week.

Yes, that is out of line. But I would let it slide if I were you.

I'm sure the ACLU would be glad to step in here.

You were in town and you didn't drop in? How rude! ;)

Morons doing stuff like this just gives the "remove anything having to do with God and religion from the public sphere" more ammunition.

I would let this slide though, at least it was a Christian symbol on the necklace, and not some Satanic one.

Save your outrage for when "My 2 Daddies" becomes required reading.

I thought about it, but I had already missed one flight on that trip. Didn't want to miss another. (flew out of Jackson)

Maybe next time.
