Annus horribilis

Latin has been outlawed.

The justification cracks me up:
Proponents claim that "some officials only use Latin to make themselves feel important."

I can't help but wonder when they'll start restricting the use of polysyllabic words, arcane literary allusions, et alia.

Nobody's going to take her seriously as a classicist until she takes on a much more condescending, self-important tone.

Went trick-or-treating at the high school and ran into the Latin club. I had half a mind to tell them to pursue a more useful language, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.
