Here is how I would choose:
LCD up to whatever size they make them these days.
LCD projection for your larger size. Consider your room, if there is light from windows look carefully at the glare resistance of the screen. We choose a Sony a couple years back mainly on this reason.

What I don't like
Plasma, really don't see much difference in quality in todays LCD or LCD projection vs plasma. It has limited life and has issues with burn-in.

DLP. Moving parts, yechh. Moving parts mean greater chance of maintenance or repair problems. This is borne out in Consumer Reports repair histories.

Your mileage may vary.
