Perspective

I am amazed at all of the gloom and doom today on the b-ball team. Sure, they played crappy at times, but they were reasonably close to the #6 team in the country. On the road no less!

Here is exhibit A of what I am talking about:

Not to pick on Archaea, but there was some serious anxiety and blood-letting at the beginning of the football season. And now Mike and other are saying that the b-ball team will never be as good as the current football team. Perhaps. But it it way, way too early to tell.

The challenge is to improve upon weaknesses.

What weaknesses did BYU exhibit last year?

Lousy half court game.

Poor rebounding.

Sometimes too many turnovers.

Plaisted got too many stupid fouls.

What happened last night? Same as last year. That's the concern.

Don't be tricked by the close score for most of the game. We played awful in every aspect of the game except for making a bunch of 3's.

I agree with you in that you can't judge a whole season by one game. We know this team _should_ be pretty good. They were good last year and have everyone back. College players improve year to year so this ought to be a good team. I was just very disappointed with the play.

UCLA may be #6, but I expect us to be about #40 and maybe better. The #40 team shouldn't look like a girls junior high team even when they play an opponent like that.

You were playing against one of the best defensive teams in the country. UCLA makes the half court offenses of good offenses look bad.

You could make the same argument about the football team. What did they do at the beginning of this year? Lose close games. Same thing they did in previous years.

BYU doesn't beat a Top 5 team, National Championship runner up on their homecourt and the idiots freak out en masse.

Typical.

BYU's ball team is dang good. This will be the best team we've had since the Roger Reid era. For those laughing at that last line....Roger Reid won a tourney game or two.:) So will this team.

I expect this bb team to be good. Based on last year and natural expected progression. But there was nothing about that game that supports that.

That's a little too superficial. The football team last year made loads of mistakes at critical times in games and had many scoring dry periods.

The football team at the beginning had trouble finishing in the end zone but after TCU learned how to do that.

The season is not over but the team looks as if it's not even aware of its deficiencies. Seton Hall and Michigan State will show if the team has learned from its mistakes.

I was there for the Reid era and BYU won a ton of games. It seems like we went to the NCAA's every year as well. Always one and done, but it was nice. Not sure why Reid gets such a bad rap, he won a lot.
