My bike is an instrument of torture...what am I doing wrong?

So I've finally made the decision to give cycling a good shot.

Took the bike to the local shop and they helped me get everything set up. I've probably put about 100 miles in so far and my body is killing me.

Hands go numb after about 3 miles. Crotch is killing me at 5, neck, back, arms hurt at 7.

Is this normal? Crotch hurts the worst... Should these things be going away? I trust the shop that helped me set up the bike but maybe I'm just a wuss.

1. Have you been fitted for your bike? Poor fit can be the issue.
2. Some of these things can just be the case where you start out, your body has to adjust.
3. Hands shouldn't be numb after 3 miles. Too much pressure on them. Get gloves, move your hands around, get more pressure on your butt so there are less on your hands.
4. Make sure you have high quality bike shorts. As in $75+.

1. Yes. The bike shop fit the bike for me when I brought it in.
2. Yeah, I'll try some gloves. Any recommendations?
3. What can I do to get more pressure on my butt? Lower the seat maybe?
4. Yeah, need some shorts. Any recommendations for those too? Not so much chaffing that hurts...more the pressure from the seat.

2. I liked my old pair of specialized. with gel.
3. one thing you can do is change your handhold positions. Like ride the top of the bar, then get on the hoods, then back and forth. Get in the drops for a while. Remove a hand from time to time and shake it. 3 miles is an extraordinarily short time to get numbness. You're doing something wrong.
4. Pearl izumis.
