There's one aspect I don't understand:

That word is usually translated as greatly disturbed. Why?

The lexicons don't attribute that meaning to it.

This is the usual definition:

to have indignation on, i.e. (transitively) to blame, (intransitively) to sigh with chagrin, (specially) to sternly enjoin

So what am I missing?
