The implications of Sitake, a polynesian head coach, failing miserably

It's not a good look for the poly community. This is like if the 2nd ever Black coach was a disaster. Black folks might be biting their fingernails wondering if it was a setback for the prospects of future poly head coaches.

So how does this affect recruiting in the poly community? Does it have any affect? Are there going to be poly recruits that "rally" to Coach Sitake because they want to play for him and help him succeed? Can he make a recruiting pitch that "I don't have the horses to win, but I know how to win. I need guys like you to win."

Overall, he needs to recruit well among all races, ethnicities, and backgrounds. Losing doesn't help. It doesn't help at all.

And really at this point in the state of BYU's program, it's not entirely clear that the coach has a huge influence on the recruiting. BYU is what it is. Honor code. Religion. Independent, non P5, no conference championship, no prospects for a good bowl, putting very few guys into the NFL, a demoralized fan base.
