best ward activities

the ward I am in has suffered from a spate of pot-luck-only activities. Some of which you might be embarrassed to invite your friends to.

When I was a kid we did all sorts of things like ward campouts, ward canoe trips, ward swimming parties.

Was wondering what other wards are doing now (with today's budget constraints) that have been successful.

bbq would be nice, but it costs money. why spend money when you can be in the cultural hall?

also we do chili cookoffs, but just in the culutural hall.

golf, lol, I have golfed twice and one was at a ward function. I walked up the ball and took a good whack. whoops, missed. missed again. and then finally hit it. that about tells you how much success I had...

Ward activities

Do they still do road shows?

When I was a kid my ward had a carnival, and they brought an older junker car. For $1 you could take a whack at it with a sledge hammer.

Good Ward Activity

We live right next to Shasta and Whiskeytown Lakes. Often, we'll get 8-10 people to bring their boats and we'll grab a beach and cook tri-tip while the ward takes turns wakeboarding. Old people and fat people can sit in the shade and consume beef products. It's always a good time.

Cat, I don't know if they are doing roadshows still. Not in my neck of the woods.

Steel, are these official ward activities, or non-official?

Official. EQ usually does the cooking. The main rule is that you don't dump your kids off on other people to go wakeboarding. You have to split the spouses up so one can watch kids while the other wakeboards.

I always wanted to do that, but I never got the chance. We did try to have a pie-eating contest once, and my brother and I (about 13 and 14) each brought pies, but nobody else did, so we never got to do that, either. We ate them at home, but it wasn't the same.
