Pharaoh took Sarai for his wife
I know almost nothing of Hebrew, but it sure seems to me like the old KJV hast shifted the tense of thee verb in Genesis 12:19:
KJV: Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way. NRSV: Why did you say, "She is my sister,' so that I took her for my wife? Now then, here is your wife, take her, and be gone." NASB: Why did you say, 'She is my sister,' so that I took her for my wife? Now then, here is your wife, take her and go. ESV: Why did you say, She is my sister, so that I took her for my wife? Now then, here is your wife; take her, and go. GNT: Why did you say, 'She is my sister,' so that I took her for my wife? Now then, here is your wife, take her and go. I'm hoping someone is comfortable enough with the Hebrew to comment... |
