The church's stance on the children of gays being baptized effectively broke the string between gays who believed and were sympathetic to the church.

It also severely damaged the hopes of any that had been trying to reach out to gay inactives.

And I think that was what it was intended to do. "We don't want gays in this church."

Dammit.
