Murphy had some HofF type years. His problem as far as getting inducted is that his career tailed off too quicly and too badly at the end. I don't remember if injuries had something to do with it, but I seem to remember they did. Most HofF players have several years of being good after their outstanding prime years end. Who knows, maybe someone like Sandy Koufax would have been remembered differently had he struggled through 4 or 5 bad years at the end before retiring instead of having his health cut his career off at the top.
