I almost picked up both yesterday at Costco and also The World is Flat now that it is on paperback. But I didn't pull the trigger. Once I finish Potter I'll start on those. But I have been meaning to read The Good Earth again. It's been sitting on my nightstand for months now.

The Good Earth was required reading when I was in high school. I remember hating it then, as I was a teenager who didn't care about a story of a Chinese farmer trying to eek out a living.

Perhaps now that I'm older I'd appreciate it more.

I've almost bought A Thousand Splendid Suns and The Kite Runner, but am curious to CG members opinions on the books before I do.

I've had The Kite Runner in my laptop bag for the last three weeks and have meant to read it on the plane. If they didn't sell Maxim at the airport bookstore, I probably would have read Kite Runner by now.

I'm reading The Stand right now. It's this years Summer "Classic" for me.

2 Summers ago I decided I'd read a classic every Summer.

05' I read Atlas Shrugged
06' I read Les Miserables
07' Now reading The Stand...of course I would imagine a lot of people don't consider that a classic, but figured oh what the heck, why not read it?

After that I'm gonna read "The Husband" by Dean Koontz, and "To Kill A Mockingbird", which I realize is considered a classic, but it's a short book compared to the other classics I've read. I read it in High School English, but to be honest don't remember a whole lot about it.

After those I'm gonna get The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns.

I liked the Kite Runner. It is set up to make you feel certain emotions...it can be very leading, but the story is solid and interesting.

I did not like Splendid Suns as much, but it still had its interesting parts. If you are unfamiliar with those cultures, it is not bad to help you gain a little insight into it even though some of it is overblown. Overall, I think it is worth it...
