How old does a kid have to be to move from crib to real bed?

Buy a toddlers' bed first. It's not as high off the floor as a regular bed and the kid will think it's really cool to have his/her own bed.

As for the age, we did it when our oldest was two so he newborn brother could have the crib when he was out of the bassinet.

We just bought a regular height bed and put some pillows on the floor in the likeliest spot for a roll-off. Like IPU, our kids usually got a real bed when we needed the crib for the next one. Thus, they were as young as 18 months old or as old as 3.

Has she climbed out of her crib yet? Or do you just need the crib for the new baby?

We just put a mattress on the floor to begin with. Luckily, our son stayed in bed the whole night.

She can climb in and out of the crib, but fortunately only does so at daytime when she's showing off.

Everybody is currently fine with the crib, I just saw a toddlers beds at the store yesterday and the thought of getting a new bed hadn't even crossed my mind. I just wanted to see what others had done.

Why do kids fall out of beds all the time, but adults only fall rarely?

Personally, I would skip the toddler bed and go for the real thing. You can buy safety rails to keep them from falling off, or put the mattress directly on the floor at first.

So, you want your precious little girl to end up like you? ;)

The crib my daughter has converts from a crib in to a toddler bed, in to a twin sized bed.

She will be two a week from today but has been crawling out of her crib for about 6 months. We didnt think she was ready for a toddler bed quite yet so we bought a crib tent to put over the crib. That has worked well for us.
