Favorite murder ballad?
My last post of Tom Dooley on the song thread is my segue. My favorite, easily, is Cocaine Blues with Dehlia a distant second, both by Johnny Cash.
Maybe this list is too short, but can any of you think of others? |

Also, Folsom prison blues is sort of about murder(johnny again). |

I mentioned this one already, but it happens to be about a murder: Billy Austin - A guy on death row retelling his crime. Live version is best. (http://music.yahoo.com/Steve-Earle/B.../lyrics/557366) Of course, there is that "Earle" song by the Dixie Chicks. (Not a favorite of mine, but I have to mention it just to piss off our buddy Archaea). |
Would Bohemian Rhapsody qualify?

"I shot a man in Reno....just to watch him die.....when I hear that whistlin blowin....I hang my head and cry."
Johnny Cash is super wahsum. |
I Shot the Sheriff - Bob Marley

How about Murder By Numbers by The Police. |
'Girlfriend in a Coma' and 'Killing an Arab' are both brutal and interesting, by the Smiths and the Cure, respectively.

Angel of Death by Slayer. A song about the Nazi physician Josef Mengele.
Silent Scream by Slayer is a pretty gruesome depiction of an abortion. I Used to Love Her by GNR is a catchy tune about a guy who murders a women after he stops loving her, later concluding that they're both happier as a result. Banks of the Ohio is an odd Cash song. A murder ballad that sounds like a church spiritual. |
