Bikinis cool or immodest?

Assuming a gal is no longer a young woman, cool or immodest?

Do you really agree that the human form is so awful it needs to be covered like with a Burkha?

And maybe I have become too gentile, but this social custom does not seem correct to me. And yes I'm aware it runs counter to decades of teachings regarding dress.

Do practicing LDS all believe that, except perhaps yours truly?

Women, what are your opinions?

I think the gal who hosts Mormon Biographies or something like that on KBYU looks pretty darn cool in hers.

There are flyers all over the chapel for the upcoming youth conference.

the flyers specify: NO TANKINIS.

I think bikinis are awesome on Brooke Burke (yes, Junkie, I already know....)

I dont think they are awesome on random wife in my ward who wears it to ward swim party.

My question is this, more basic. What is so horrible about the human form, that we are ashamed of it?

Are they so afraid that everything leads to rampant orgies, or that we're unable to calm our thoughts?

"Cool or immodest?"

That's a false dichotomy.

Is uncovered always immodest?

In some ways, I see what the leaders are trying to do, WoW, "modest dress", and curtailing language, et al, as a form of branding of the product.

And I'm not stating that everybody needs to look skanky, but I disagree the uncovered human form is inherently immodest.

A dress which has holes for nipples is immodest, but a dress by virtue of its sheerness which allows the body to be suggestive is not.

I know you guys like to throw out this "branding" concept every now and then, and I suppose there's a time I agree the church is branding. But do you really think WoW, modest dress, curtailing language et al is merely a branding strategy??

I think the church moves at a very slow pace. Women wearing Levis for example. Surely if it is OK and not immodest now, it wasn't in 1979 when I went to BYU either. However, at the time it was claimed to be.

I wouldn't say "branding", just slow and I don't see anything wrong with that as long as we aren't condemning others as being pornographic who are a few years ahead of us.

Modest is hottest, Arch.

That you would bring this up, as well as Adam's penchant for leering at the MIA Maids, I'm going with immodest with this group. Got to draw the line somewhere.
