What is the purse for the Tour de France?

Is there a purse for the winner of the yellow? Team purse? Or is it a trophy and a pat on the back with a "good job" and a handshake and let the sponsors pay their cyclists?

there is a purse, but it is not very large. Might be just under 1 million. get's split up between all team members and team.

Last year Lance, as a good gesture, donated his entire portion of the purse to his teammates. It was less than 1 million, iirc. I think he'll be okay though. The $20 million Nike contract should keep him out of the soup kitchen for awhile.

I think the winner got 400,000 euros in '05, with total prizes (stage wins, sprint bonuses, other jerseys, etc.) being around 3,000,000 euros.

Traditionally (butnot always) the yellow jersey winner splits up the purse with everybody.

Come on creekster. You're in America. Speak English. What does the mean? WHat is the conversion factor for Euros to dollars? I'm much too lazy to google it.

I die a little everyday with that rate. I'm paying for braces (3 kids) in euros.

:(

MBN, so you dated Meg Ryan's sister?

But the Tour Day Stinking France just went right by your house! How can that be valued? Besides, straight teeth are greatly over-emphasized.

That's right...
