On Supreme Court nominees

I would like a variety of nominees, staying away for a moment from their interpretative constructions.

Right now, all that are appointed are law professors or judges. Many people have formal legal training, and the decisions reached by the Supreme Court affects persons from all walks of life.

Corporate counsel, business counsel, perhaps a divorce lawyer and other varieties should also be considerable. Let's drop the charade we're trying to get the best, as we're not: we're trying to get somebody confirmable.

This credentials canard must be exposed.

Trust me - speaking as a divorce lawyer - you don't want a divorce lawyer on the Supreme Court.

You definitely don't want a family law judge: "I know the law says this, but darn it, we're a court of equity, and I just don't think it's right. So despite what the law says, I'm going to go with what my gut tells me."

You think I'm kidding - I just finished an appellate brief on that very case.
