In Brazil, after a couple has lived together five years (I think it's five, I've been home a few years and can't remember for sure), they are, by law, 'married' in that they receive the same benefits...

In Brazil it's not hard to get a divorce, just expensive. You have to hire an attorney to do it regardless of how agreeable the two parties are...and frequently they have no problems with each...
