One of the most frustrating experiences of my life was slogging my way through The Sound and The Fury. Faulkner blows - at least for dumb guys like me.
I love The Brothers Karamazov and Crime and Punishment. Dostoevsky is fantastic.
Some of my other favorites are Huckleberry Finn, The Grapes of Wrath, and Brave New World.
