Great book.

My 9 year old read it this summer. His teacher at school challenged him to read some "grown up " books and this was on his list. He's smart enough to read the words, as when he was tested this spring, he was reading on an 11th grade level, but his mind still functions as a 9 year old.

After reading about the outcome of the trial, he just couldn't wrap his brain around why the verdict was guilty. It gave me a good opportunity to talk to him - and his older siblings - about how blacks were treated in the South in those days. It was great to see him express his feelings that people who hate others because of the color of their skin should, in his words, "be grounded for 5 years with no tv."
