The letter is legit. Being attributed to Paul Allen of Microsoft fame is where it gets muddy. It's really Paul Allen of SCV. The paper is horrendous by the way. The only reason I ever picked up a copy of it was to see if I made the paper following a game. It's not much better than the Daily Universe. Sammy Zeile, mother of Todd Zeile used to be the head editor. Not sure if she still is. And anyone from SCV or familiar with it knows the large Mormon population and their influence in the community.
