Me and a buddy had an RM roommate in the summer after our freshman year. He did not fit in with the rest of our apartment, he being mature and spiritual and us being 18 year old kids trying to have as much fun as possible before going away for 2 years. He was a nazi about people stealing his milk and he marked it with a line like your roomie did. He drank skim, so we'd steal some and replace it with water back up to the line. He never seemed to notice.
