Optimal range for a handgun is about 20 yards as they are intended for close proximity usage. However, you are not calculating the extra rifling in a rifle versus the minor length of rifling in the barrel of a pistol or revolver. I wouldn't choose a handgun as my weapon of choice if I knew I were shooting at 25, 50 or 75 yards. Would you?
What are the distances in gun ranges? I haven't really thought about that as I don't really frequent them.
