I'm using the term loosely. To me, it means studying language usage, etymologies, the historical context of events, geographies, etc. Taking a clinical approach.

That's different from, for a lack of a better word, a more "spiritual" approach ... seeking the Spirit during study, focusing on personal application, etc.

A combination of the two is necessary, I think, for an enriched study experience.
