There are a LOT of LDS out there (some with popular Missionary books) that beat it into youths/missionaries' heads that we must save EVERYONE. They share heart moving stories about the missionaries who just wouldn't take "no" for an answer, etc. What this turns into in real life is a bunch of missionaries with telemarketing type attitudes that annoy the sam heck out of people.
Certainly, not all missionaries are like this ... just look at the Elder Stapleton at the end of the article. He appeared to "get" it.
I can't count the number of times I saw missionaries bugging the crap out of people in an effort to save them. I fell victim to something similar on occasion, but I wasn't in it so much to save them as I was 'cause I was annoyed with them. :-) Sometimes, bugging them was my whole point.
